Little Hands

Little Hands
By Shari G.

Little hands, little feet
A baby girl who is so sweet
Little eyes, little nose
My love for you only grows
Little mouth, toothless smile
For you I will go that extra mile
Little hands, little feet
How you made my life so complete

January 30, 2007
Tonight was a milestone… one of the many yet to come. Emma rolled over for the first time. I was putting her pajamas on her and while I was getting ready to put her feet in, she flipped herself over. I don’t know who was more shocked, Brianna and me or Emma. Mommy, Daddy, Grandpa and Grandma all got to witness this first feat, she couldn’t have chose a better time.

I had to laugh, Brianna and Jordan brought her over and when Brianna sit at the computer, Emma wanted to type too. Brianna told me “don’t play X box with Emma, she cheats!!” I laughed and said “what do you mean she cheats??” When Brianna was playing it while holding Emma, Emma would push her hands off the button and start pushing the buttons herself. She made all the guys die on it according to Brianna, making Brianna lose. Jordan always liked the Nintendo’s when he was little too. He would push the button to make Mario jump up and down until he ran out of time. Emma already likes to type with me. She pushes my hands out of the way and spreads her hands out over the keys (mostly the space bar) trying to mimic me. We think she must be the smartest, sweetest, prettiest, happiest baby there ever is. Brianna said to me today “Is it just because I am Mom that I think Emma is really smart for just turning 4 months? She already figured out all her toys!” I have to agree… she is a very smart baby.

Emma is growing up so fast. She may only be 4 months, but she is such a busy little girl. She has figured out all her toys on the activity centers she received for Christmas already. She also lets us know what she likes and doesn’t like, in no uncertain terms. She likes to play with her Tigger while sitting on Grandpa’s lap and she doesn’t like it if someone takes her away from it… unless it is to offer a bottle to her. She loves shopping, but not in her carrier, she wants to see. She sits up in the cart and we put blankets and such around her to help keep her sitting straight. She goes through the stores laughing and talking. She likes apple sauce and hates green beans. She tolerates carrots, but keep the sweet potatoes away from her. She likes to watch football, especially if it is at Great Grandpa Lee’s with his big screen TV.

Emma likes going in the car seat in my car, but if it is dark and she can’t see herself in her little mirror, she will cry until we turn on the light for her. The sun shining in irritates her. We bought the shades but they don’t seem to stick to the window very well so we picked up her some sunglasses. It is funny when we put them on her. She looks so cute.

Jordan was away for school for a week and she really missed her daddy. When he got home, she would look at him and get so excited and laugh and laugh. She is a daddy’s girl. She will tease Brianna and look away from her when Brianna tries to talk to her. Then after Brianna says “are you mad at me?” She will turn and laugh at her. I know she is just teasing mommy to get a reaction. It is like a game.

When Emma has poopy diapers we tell her “ack” while we change her and she laughs like she thinks it is so funny. The other day when she was playing in her activity center next to me she kept looking at me and telling me “ack… ack” It wasn’t long before it dawned on me (via nose) that she had messed her diaper and was letting me know. She also does this funny little squeak when she poohs. It is always a warning to Jordan for him to have something he has to do right then… so Mommy gets the nasty diaper instead.

Holidays are over and Emma Loved her first Christmas. She was spoiled pretty well, especially by Santa and Grandma. She got so excited over the toys and seeing how they work that when we took her shopping for the day after Christmas sales, and took her into the toy isle she just started laughing. I think she thought all those were her toys too!

She is growing and maturing so fast. My dad teases me because I think she is the smartest baby there ever was. She notices things and never seems to forget where they are. I gave her a taste of a cherry candy cane from the Christmas tree and now when i go to rock her sitting next to the tree, she looks for the candy canes and when she finds them, she leans towards them, fussing. Looks like she inherited her mommy and grandma's sweet tooth.

Brianna goes back to work tomorrow. I will watch Emma Monday through Friday from 7am to 3pm. I am looking forward to being able to spoil her.. i mean take care of her all that time. She is getting better about my being able to put her down while she is here though. Last night she spent the night. She went to bed at 9:30pm slept until 3:30am and then was up until 5 then back down until 9:30. She is so sweet and good. Even when she wakes up, she doesn't cry. She lays in her bed and talks to herself until you come pick her up. It gives me time to go fix her bottle. She loves it when you change her diaper. She laughs at you if it is messy. Now she even says "mmmm" when you are feeding her cereal. Jordan did that when he was a baby... until he was like 10. I guess they enjoy their food.

Emma is now 24 inches long and 12 pounds 10 oz. I sure love her.

It is hard to believe my little Emmalyne Lillian is 7 weeks old now. She has gained 3 pounds since birth. She was born September 27, 2006 and weighed in at 7lbs 13 ozs and was 20 and half inches long. She is now 22 inches and 10lbs 10 ozs and loves her attention. She has a new name for me.. it is Whaaa. That is what she says when she sees me and decides she needs picked up. She can fake cry and it is funny to watch her little mind working. She is beautiful, sweet, a bit spoiled, so very loved and perfect in every way.

We were a bit worried that Tara (the dog) would be a bit jealous of the baby since Tara has been my baby for 7 years now, but she loves Emma. She does get a bit pouty when we are rocking the baby in the rocking chair which was always Tara and my cuddle chair. She doesn't get aggressive at all with Emma though, doesn't try to take toys from her or get too upset at her crying. She does sneak in a "kiss" whenever she thinks we aren't watching though. Kevin nicknamed her "licker" cuz that is what she does every time she gets a chance. He tells Emma "oh here comes licker"
Emma doesn't like it if Tara licks her in the face, I don't blame her, I don't like that either. She almost giggles though if Tara licks her ears. Cocoa the cat is a whole different story though. She grumps around here like a grumpy old man or woman. She growls and hisses the whole time the baby is here. She never did like kids and really doesn't like something that takes precedence over her. She keeps away from Emma and hides in the bedroom.

Cassie is totally in love with Emma. She says when her friends tell her how often they see her and with her being 60 miles away and not seeing her as often, it makes her so jealous. I keep telling her she needs to move back to town here and open a beauty shop here but she wouldn't make the money she does there so I understand how that wouldn't work.

Well Emma, you are one day old and so beautiful. I can’t tell you how happy I am having you as my first grandbaby. Your mother went through so much pain and hardship with the labor, it was such a relief when the doctor finally said he was going to take you C section. When you were born, your mother said you are worth it, that you are. There will never be another baby born anywhere in the world who is loved more then you are, it isn’t possible. Your mom and dad love you so much, your grandmas and grandpas love you so much and aunt Cassie cried when she heard your cry. Uncle Jarrod is so tickled seeing the picture of you that I sent. He can’t wait to come and see you. He and great grandpa Don went on a hunting trip and will be back next week.

First time I seen you, your daddy was carrying you from the operating room to the nursery. He held you up for me to see and said “Look mom, just look at her” I never seen anyone look so happy and proud as when he held you up to show me.

Then when you would cry he would say “Emma, I love you” and you would settle down. Another thing that would get you to stop crying is when I would say “Emma, want Grandma to take you shopping?”

My first words to you though were when they laid you under the heat lamp and you were hurting and unhappy. Your little head hurt and they put this little cap on it and you didn’t like it at all. I said to you “don’t worry, Aunt Shari is here” I am not use to the Grandma title.

I do love the Grandma title though, and the thought of how I can spoil you is scaring your parents! Not really, they know I would never do anything to cause you harm and over indulging a child would do just that, if done in a negative way. So Emma, I love you more then life it’s self, I will do all I can to be the best Grandma in the world, but I will also back your parents and try not to do anything that will undermine their parenting. I will be there for you whenever you need me, and at times when you don’t. I will listen to you, give advice, bake cookies and cook with you… and of course take you shopping! We will make lots of wonderful memories together, you and me.

Love you always
Grandma Shari

A Grandmother's Love

A Grandma’s Love
By Shari G.

Not all that long ago, I held my newborn son
Handsome and sweet, giggles and fun
I watched him grow into a fine young man
At 16, his love for Brianna began

Three years later, a gift they gave
A baby so sweet, my heart she did enslave
Emmalyne Lillian is as perfect as can be
Making a proud grandmother out of me

To hold her close and feel her touch
No other gift, could I enjoy this much
She giggles as I sing out of tune to her
It’s a greater gift then all the kings Myrrh

Around those little fingers she has me wrapped
Keeping me from house work, she has me trapped
I don’t mind, my house can wait
My little grandbaby and I have a date

I love you Emma, more then you could ever know
You touch my heart deep with the smiles you show
While no love can compare to that of a mother
There’s no better title to be then "Grandmother"
