First Camping Trip

Jordan, Brianna and Cassie decided to take Emma to the lake for a camping trip. After they got the camp all set up, it started storming and so they headed home. They didn't think it would be good to have Emma out in the lightening, which I agree (don't like them being in it either of course). They did get a lot of great pictures though.

Summertime fun

July 25, 2008

It has been almost 20 days since I wrote in this last time. I am slacking for sure!
Emma is so funny. She is getting more and more personality each day along with her vocabulary. She spent the week with me while her parents were in Rapid City staying with Grandpa Ron who is pretty sick (but improving, thank God). She did very well without seeing her parents although she wasn’t about to let go of them when they came home.
Emma is a smart little girl. I asked her to get her pull-ups out of her drawer. I told her they were in the third drawer down, to count from the top, 1, 2, 3. She went in the bedroom and counted the drawers and opened the right one, getting out her pull-up. She has been doing pretty good telling us when she has too pooh but still doesn’t let us know when she needs to potty. I put her in big girl panties one morning and she had one accident then she didn’t have another while she was in them. When we had to go, I changed her back into pull-ups and she wet in those. Maybe I will really work on her this weekend while she is spending the night while the kids go back to the hospital.
Hmm… what was some of the cute things Emma did this month. Well, everything she does is cute, ok almost everything. We went to a friends house and picked some greens from the garden. She loved being in the garden and looking at all the flowers. My friend asked her if she wanted some flowers, so they went around picking out which flowers she wanted for the bouquet. Emma was so funny with how picky she was on which flowers she wanted. It turned out to be a nice bouquet and my friend put them in a small vase for her. She carried that vase all the way home, only letting me hold it a little bit.
She still is obsessed with finding the dog pooh in the yard. She has to get the pooper scooper out and go looking each time when she is outside. I was in making dinner and grandpa was outside with her. She even made grandpa go looking with her.
She started singing songs a lot now. When she talked to her momma on the phone she would sing to her “mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy” I think it is because I make up songs with Emma or Emmalyne. She was so cute though. We are working on spelling her name with the bath markers in her bath tub. I spell it out and say “E M M A” and she will draw on the tub saying “E E E E” in the same tune as I sung. She will get it soon though.
We had a friend of Cassie’s and her little 7 mo old baby stay with us last weekend. Emma also stayed with us. Emma loved the baby and when we got the play center out she had to go in it also. She was almost on her knees in it. Brianna said “you are too big for that!” I told her she was reliving her childhood…Brianna was quick to point out that her childhood isn’t even 2 years yet!

Emma was over today for a bit. She was so mad at me when she wanted to get in the stroller and go for a walk and I thought it was too hot outside. What a little fit she threw. I thought I was going to have to make her take a nap but I got her settled down with the dishes Cassie brought over for her on Friday. We had a little tea party and then when she settled down we went outside to see what Grandpa was up too. He is making a well to use to water the yard and was flushing it out. Emma thought all that mud looked fun, so I undressed her and let her stomp around in the mud puddles. She wasn't too sure she liked it at first, squishing between her toes and all, but then she started enjoying it. After she was done we took her in to give her a bath. My bathtub was really full of mud afterwards. She wanted to go back in the mud puddles after her bath, but Jordan and Brianna came to pick her up.

July 4, 2008

What a week we have had! Emma had an exciting 3rd and 4th of July. Jordan, Brianna and I took her to the carnival in Belle Fourche. She really enjoyed the carousel and the whales. She got to the point with the whales that she would go out the exit and head right back to the entrance to go back on them. We also took her on the bears where you sit inside and use the wheel to spin it. She wasn’t too sure about that at first but it wasn’t long into the ride she started saying “round, round, round” and then she seen her momma watching and she yelled out “mommy”. How she seen her while we were spinning, I am not sure.
Jordan and Brianna went on the Zipper and the Typhoon and Emma really thought those looked fun. She watched how the kids on the Typhoon would hold their hands up over their heads and so when she was on the Whales, she started putting her hands up and screaming like the big kids did on their rides. Even the grumpy looking carnie started laughing at her. She also pointed to the bears and said “I go on there”. She didn’t go on them again, she decided to stay with the whales.
We did some games with her. They let little kids win each time so she came away with loads of fun things from a blow up lollypop to a stuffed Nemo and a pink blow up dolphin.
She tried her first Corn dog. She really loved it. Such excitement.
Emma is my little pooper scooper. She scouts out where Tara goes pooh-pooh in the yard and yells “Maaaa” (her nickname for me) and runs and gets the pooper scooper for me. We have to check out for any pooh-pooh she hopes to find in the yard. Yesterday she would see the Buckeye nuts from last fall and pointing to them she would say “pooh-pooh” wanting me to scoop that up too. She is so funny.
Yesterday Emma was over and playing in the dirt. She started throwing mud clumps and I told her not to throw it when she threw it at Tara. She would pick one up and throw it and I would say “Didn’t grandma tell you do not throw dirt?” She would say “yeah” and throw another one. I said “if you throw it again, I will take you in the house”. She started setting them down softly then. After a few times of doing that she threw another one. I said “didn’t grandma tell you not to throw dirt?” She said “yeah” and then set one down and looked at me and said “There, I do-n’t (she pronounced it do n’t instead of did n’t.) throw it” I just had to laugh.
Today we had a big day. We went to Grandpa Don and Grandma Eda’s for fried chicken dinner. Emma really enjoyed the drum stick but was a bit confused and kept trying eating the part down below that you hold on too. She was fun but got tired and was a stinker for a bit. I rode back to Sundance with them since Kevin wanted to go earlier then I did. When we got back, the kids dropped Emma and me off at my house while they ran home to change before shooting off fireworks.
Emma was playing with her lawn mower and must have decided that she needed more bubbles in it. She went down to the kitchen and I heard her fall, so I went down there and she was sitting up on the floor crying. She had spilled her juice and her dress was wet so I picked her up and took off her dress. I gave her the bubbles and we headed back up to the living room. I poured more bubbles in her mower and we played with them a few minutes when she said “thrity” her word for thirsty so we walked down to get more juice. She picked out a box rather then a Capri sun and I turned to the table to put the straw in it for her. I noticed there was blood on the chair and I said “are you bleeding?” I started checking her over and sure enough, she had a small cut on her head. I grabbed a clean washcloth and cleaned it up and figured they may have to put a stitch in it. I called the kids and told them to meet me up at the ER and went to tell Kevin I had to take her up there, he looked at it and said he thought so too. So I called the hospital really quick to tell them we were on our way and headed up there. The kids beat me up there and then said I was the one who was upset and nervous. After all the accidents Jordan had while growing up, it didn’t prepare me for my little grandbaby getting hurt at Grandma’s house! She didn’t get a stitch, they just have to keep it clean and put antibiotic ointment on it. Dr. Casey is the one who always dealt with Jordan’s accidents and so she asked Brianna if she had Neosporin at home and Brianna said yes. Dr. Casey said “well good, you will need it with him!” pointing to Jordan. She has a good start taking after Jordan on this too it seems.
Emma loved the fireworks tonight. She laughed and clapped and wanted to help light them. She did a couple sparklers but the ones she liked were the little snap pops that you throw down on the ground. If they didn’t go off she would stomp on them. She was ready to go home when they finally left around 11pm. Two late nights probably make her a cranky baby tomorrow when they go spend the day with Grandma Marla and Grandpa Ron.
