January 27, 2008

Emma is 16 months old now. She is growing up so fast. She is getting to be a little stinker once in a while… a loveable stinker though. When her mom asks her for a kiss she will shake her head “no” and I will say “can grandma have a kiss?” She will shake her head “no” and we will go through asking for kisses for daddy and grandpa, each with the same reaction “no” So then I ask if Tara can have a kiss and she will grin and nod “yes” then blow Tara a kiss. I guess we know where we stand!

Emma likes to sing into her little microphone and dance. She is so cute and I try and try to get video of her dancing and singing, but she won’t do it while I am behind the camera. She is so funny. She sure likes music. She sits and plays the piano and when her daddy would try to play it with her she gets mad and pushes his hands off. He will reach around her and play one side then the other. She always pushes his hands off, letting him know she wasn’t going to share! I think she rules the roost.

Emma and Brianna spent last week with Grandma Neil while Jordan worked out of town. Sounds like they had a great time. Emma got to play with cousin Owen and Kaydence. They went back again today. They will stay over there this week also. I know I have to share Emma with her other grandma’s but I miss her so much not seeing her each day. I keep saying I will get my house under control and get my photo albums done, but it seems that I get called into work more when they know I won’t have Emma.

Emma, Grandma Shari loves you so much, always will.

January 11, 2008

It is funny how you think you know someone very well and they continue to surprise you, isn’t it? Emma showed a real mature side of her this week. She may only be 15 months old but she is so sweet and compassionate, it goes well beyond her year.

Aunt Cassie broke her leg in three places when she slipped on some ice last Friday. She had to have 2 plates and 11 screws put in it on Tuesday and she spent the night at the hospital. I stayed there with Cassie and Brianna and Emma came over on Wednesday, visiting Cassie in the hospital and then spending the day at the apartment when Cassie was released. Emma was full of kisses and hugs for Cassie at the hospital, even when she didn’t really want to be on the bed. She didn’t know what to think of Cassie’s owie though but she was very careful. Then at home, Cassie was laying on her couch with a blanket, having to have her foot elevated and iced. She was hurting and she was crying. I think Emma misunderstood it because she pulled the blanket off Cassie and told her “ok… there”. Letting her know that she didn’t have to lay down to take a nap if she didn’t want to! When Cassie didn’t get up, Emma crawled up with her and cuddled with her. She would run her finger along Cassie’s face, like I do her when I am trying to get her to sleep. She also would stroke Cassie’s hair and gave her kisses. She would say “awww” to her, trying to comfort her. I about cried seeing how tender she was with Aunt Cassie.

She was also funny. When Cassie would do the labor breathing for the pain… in through the nose, slowly out through the mouth… Emma would bend over and do it also. I thought that was cute, her copying Cassie so I grabbed a extra bandage and told Emma “here, Grandma will make your leg like Cassie’s” I didn’t think how that sounded to Emma but when I tried to wrap her leg, she screamed and went running. It dawned on me that she thought I was going to make her leg hurt like Cassie’s with that wrap. I said “look Emma, grandma will put it on her arm, it doesn’t hurt” Emma got upset and tried to pull it off my arm in a panic. I rolled up the wrap and told her Grandma would never ever hurt her! Poor girl.

Cassie and Emma are both spending the night here tonight. Cassie is upset that I won’t let Emma sleep in bed with her. They fell asleep on Emma’s little couch and when I picked Emma up to put her in her bed, Cassie started to argue. I told her that with her on the strong pain killers, it would be dangerous for Emma to sleep with her. I worry that she could roll over on Emma and not be able to wake up to know or even if Emma woke up and Cassie didn’t, Emma could get into something she shouldn’t or choke on something. I also worry that when Emma starts moving around in her sleep that she would hurt Cassie’s leg. They are two kindred spirits for sure. I don’t think there could be any child around who is more loved then little Emmalyne!
Emma went to the doctors and she is 25 pounds and 2 feet 7 inches tall. She also is a bit pigeon toed so she has to wear her shoes on the wrong feet for a bit. Other then that she is doing so well.

Cassie came over and watched Emma while Jordan and Brianna went out for New Years Eve. I was working so I couldn’t keep her. Cassie brought over party hats, confetti, Champaign glasses, cream soda and big diamond rings. They had a regular little party, just the two of them. Emma loved it! They both were asleep by 8:30pm though, so much for seeing in the New Year!
Emma is learning more and more words. Some we would rather she didn’t learn though. She likes to push the buttons on the TV so when she turned the TV off, then turned it back on, it went into the “locating remote” mode. During this time the TV is muted. We had lost the remote it locates long ago so all it did was mute the TV for a few minutes. I said “Oh no Emma, you broke the TV, it doesn’t talk anymore” Her eyes got a bit worried and she said “oh Shi..” She didn’t get the t sound on it but it was very clear on what she was saying! Brianna and I looked at each other and said “did she just say what I think she said?” I haven’t heard it again from her though, good thing.

Today she was over while Brianna cleaned Energy Electric. We had a fun time playing with different toys. She went back to her bedroom here and I heard her yelling for me, not crying, just yelling. I went back there and found she had opened one of the drawers, finding a wooden puzzle I put in there until she was old enough for it and as she tried to get it out, she shut her arm in the drawer and couldn’t get it out. She wasn’t hurt, just stuck. I opened the drawer and she took her arm out, rubbing it where it was stuck, glaring at the drawers. She did very well putting the puzzle together though. She seemed to be able to match up the shapes and colors pretty well. I think a few more times of playing with it she will be able to put it together pretty fast. I will start watching for more puzzles like that.

Emma and Brianna came to the restaurant tonight. She looked so cute in the jacket Aunt Pam gave her for Christmas and the hat I bought for her in the fall. She went around to each of my tables with me, checking on drinks and how things were. Soon she was going around to each of the tables on her own, checking on them… or maybe hoping they would share their food with her, your guess is as good as mine!

Emma let me rock her to sleep today for her nap. She cuddled up to me and fussed when I laid her on her couch to let the dog back in. She took a nice nap then came back afterwards and cuddled for a bit until she was ready to get up and play. Tara woke her up or she would probably have slept for another half hour or so. I think Tara wanted her playmate to play. They are so funny. Emma would take one of Tara’s toys and Tara would chase her and get it back, then run and jump up on my lap with it. Emma would come over and steal it back from Tara, she never would have gotten it if Tara didn’t want to play the game with her. Emma would get it and start running, laughing all the way and Tara would chase her and steal it back. I was amazed how Tara would be very, very careful not to get little fingers, which at times had to be hard. They get along so good. Kevin loves it when he comes home and Emma is here. He can see her and Tara at the door, Tara barking and Emma barking right along with her, both standing and pounding (or pawing) at the door. Emma is also into giving Tara kisses. She seems to like to lick when she kisses now. I keep telling her that is eww. She just laughs. She is so full of personality. She is so smart and so pretty and so ornery! She is one very loved little girl!
