Tomorrow Emma will be 5 months old. Only one more month and I can take her for more pictures… yeah!! I had promised her after the 4th session in 3 months that I will wait for her 6th month pictures before putting her through it again. It has been hard on me to keep that promise though. She changes and grows so fast!

Emma got her first tooth in yesterday. It is the bottom, left front. The bottom, right front is almost thru also. The way she chews on her fingers (and ours) it is going to hurt one of these days.

Emma is still sick with the flu. We had her back in to the doctors again today. He said to put her on a clear liquid diet, no formula. That isn’t working so well, she wants her bottles with her formula, not juice. She didn’t even seem to want the Jell-O I was trying to give her either. She did like my Raspberry Ice tea as long as it was out of my glass though. I hope that she will drink more then she is though, the doctor said if she gets dehydrated he will have to put her in the hospital.

What a wild week we have had this week.

Tuesday, Brianna, Emma and I went to Rapid City to shop. Emma, being so long, has grown out of most of her clothes now. We bought her a new wardrobe in 9 month size. We lucked out and found very cute things on sale at JC Penney’s and Kohl’s. Emma loves shopping and was really happy in Border’s Book store where we found buy 4 books, get one free sale going on, so she got 5 new books for Grandma to read to her. She loves being read to and has to change the pages herself already.

Brianna had a doctor’s appointment in Spearfish later in the day. They were running late so we had a hour wait for her to go in. A man there was sitting back in his chair, with his eyes closed. Emma thought that was as funny as can be… she would look at the man and laugh, then look at Brianna and give her a “look at that man sleeping mom!” Brianna would say “it isn’t nice to stare at people sleeping in the doctors office, that is rude” So Emma started giving her a blank stare, not even blinking her eyes… it drove Brianna crazy, she would say “stop” and Emma would do it even more. Now I know it doesn’t seem possible that she would do it on purpose, but later that evening we were telling Kevin and Jordan about it and Emma did it again to Brianna until Brianna would laughingly say “stop” Emma would just laugh. I did figure out why she does that though, Jordan does it to tease Brianna too and I think Emma thinks it is a game.

Wednesday Brianna and Emma came over for the day. Emma had a blast watching Tara and scooting over to Tara’s toys. Tara is so patient with Emma, anyone else she will take her toy back from, but with Emma, she just lets her have it and finds another one to play with.

Thursday, Emma Brianna and I went to Gillette to visit Aunt Cassie. Cassie is my daughter and she is totally taken with Emma. She gave Emma some clothes she bought for her and we went to lunch, Wal-Mart and to get my oil changed. All went well except for the oil changing part. Emma wasn’t so fond of that part of it. Wal-Mart was, of course, her favorite part, especially when Cassie carried her all around instead of her riding in the cart.

Thursday night Emma spent the night with me since Brianna had to work early Friday morning. She was so good, went to sleep at 9:30 Thursday night and didn’t wake up until 7:30 Friday morning. It didn’t take long for me to figure out that she wasn’t feeling well on Friday though, she wouldn’t let me put her down to sleep and she wouldn’t eat at all. By Friday night she was running a low grade temp and today they took her in since she still wasn’t eating. I thought she might have had strep throat but it came back negitive. They think she has a stomach flu though and she seems to be doing much better tonight. I guess with her being out and around so much, she is exposed to so much.

I went over to the kids today to help out with Emma before I had to go to work. She was not feeling well and would just let me rock her and hold her. Then the kids turned on the X box.. That brought life back into Emma pretty fast, just hearing the music. She got so excited watching them play their game, and would root them on with a “ack” and a few other cheers when something would happen. Her little feet would start kicking as they would make their little guys jump. Finally she started wanting their controllers so they gave her “hers” one they have just for her without a cord. Emma was in heaven “playing” X box with her parents!

Emma’s first Valentine’s day… she is our Valentine for sure. She came over this morning and I gave her a big stuffed Unicorn, which she isn’t sure what she is suppose to do with it… so she pulled out a handful of mane. She looked so cute in her little Valentine pj’s and her little dress. I would like to be able to give her a little cherry sucker for it to, but no sweets yet. Next year eh?

Emma talked with Aunt Cassie on the phone today. Well, she talked until the phone was to her ear, then she would look and listen. She was really curious about the cord to the phone. Most phones she talks on are either cell or cordless. Miss Curiosity is a good nickname for her.
She still loves her cereal and pears. I don’t think it will be easy to teach her not to talk with her mouth full. She “mmmm’s” through each bite, just like her daddy did. He did it until he was around 8 years old though.

She is out growing her clothes so fast. She is wearing some 9 months clothes already. It is from her body length.

She is standing in her activity center and jump-a-roo. I was watching her play in her jump-a-roo today and she would stand in it and try walking. If she had a walker I bet we would never keep up with her.

Today in her bath, she found that her legs are long enough to touch the front end of the bathtub. She would stretch until she had her feet up against the wall of the tub, then she would laugh like she accomplished something great. I almost hated getting her out of the tub, she was having so much fun.

February 8, 2007
Poor Emma, she had her shots today. She cried and cried. Grandma about cried with her! The doctor said she is doing very well. She has great upper body strength and good lower body strength. She weighs 14 lbs and 12 oz and is 26 and half inches long. The doctor said she is in the 50% for weight and the 95% for height. She is long and skinny. He laughed and said if she keeps growing like she is, she will be center on the basketball team!

Emma find humor in so much. She laughs at the dog and at the cat. She laughs when her daddy teases her mommy. She laughs if you bounce her or when you hold her up over your head. She laughs at grandpa like he is the funniest looking thing. It is ok, we laugh with her too.

Everywhere we go we are told how cute she is and how perfect she looks. They don’t have to talk us into believing it though, we have that same opinion. We also know she is such a good baby. Tonight she cried a lot more then we have heard her cry except when she had her ear infection before Christmas. Poor baby.

February 6, 2007

Emma was so funny last night. She sure enjoys Tara, my cocker spaniel. She laughs and laughs at her. So last night she was enjoying watching the dog play with the dogs squeaky rabbit and Brianna was holding her while sitting on the steps going up to my living room. I got the camera out with Emma laughing and enjoying the dog so much when she threw herself down to join in Tara’s fun. She didn’t actually get it in her mouth though, good reflexes Brianna has.

Emma had her first taste of pears yesterday also. I put some in her cereal. Her eyes grew very big and she couldn’t eat it fast enough… or I couldn’t feed her fast enough, because she started grabbing my fingers that were holding the spoon pulling it to her mouth. She would suck the cereal off before I even got the spoon in her mouth, kind of like sucking spaghetti in. She ate the whole bowl of cereal and good thing she doesn’t have a older sibling, or she would know that you can actually lick the bowl clean on really yummy things like pudding. She is a very good eater. She eats cereal in the morning and at night and 6 to 8 ounces of formula about every 3 hours during the waking hours, but then sleeps 8 to 10 hours at night without waking up. Couldn’t ask for a better baby.
