At the Anniversary party

May 22, 2008

It is back to raining outside, guess it is better then snow, but it makes Emma very unhappy not to be able to go outside to play. She loves it outside.

Last weekend we had the dinner for Grandpa Lee and Grandma DeMaris’s 50th anniversary. It was a nice dinner at the Buffalo Jump Steakhouse in Beulah. Emma was a cutie like always. She spent the night with us and Aunt Cassie stayed here also, so that thrilled Emma waking up to Cassie in the morning. Emma loves her Aunt Cassie a lot. Emma rode home with Grandpa Kevin and me in the pickup. She thought that was really funny seeing Grandpa driving.
Sunday I took her out to Grandpa Lee’s and Grandma DeMaris’s to visit with Terri, Gordon, Laura, Casey and Autumn before they left. Emilee and Skylee was there and Emilee really doesn’t like Emma very well, especially when Emma is playing with toys over there that Emilee thinks of as hers. Emma stands her own though, she doesn’t give up any toy just because Emilee throws a fit, which is a good thing. Emilee is a sweetheart and so funny, but shows her 2 year old temper once in a while. I am sure when they both get past the 2 year old stage, they will be best of friends.

Tuesday I took Emma with me while Brianna drove her car over to Belle to be aligned. We met her over there and Aunt Pam met us at Taco John’s for lunch. We sit outside and visited for about 3 hours. Brianna got sunburned very bad but Emma didn’t get it much since Brianna is so good at putting sunscreen on her after her baths in the morning. On the way back, Emma was fighting sleep and was getting restless in the car seat, she started fussing. I said “remember when Grandpa drove the pickup?” She stopped fussing and said “ya” and giggled. I asked “Is grandpa a good driver?” She said “no”. I said “is grandma a good driver?” and she said “yes” We have asked her several times since and she always says grandma is a good driver and grandpa isn’t. She is such a card.

I gave Emma a container of little cookies to eat. She would get upset with me when I would eat one. She figured out how to keep me from them. She would put one in her mouth and then put her hand back in the container so I couldn’t sneak one. This is after she helped eat my 100 calorie pack of Oreos. She is so funny.

I had to laugh at Emma today. We went to Great-grandma Eda’s and Great -grandpa Don’s house for lunch and to take over Eda’s mother’s day present. Emma makes herself at home anywhere we go. She really enjoys visiting Don and Eda and loves exploring around their house. She talked Grandpa Don into taking her outside for a bit and swindled extra ice cream from Grandma Eda. When we were getting ready to leave Eda was sending some jeans home for Cassie to go through but Emma wanted to carry the bag which was way to heavy for her. Eda got another bag out and put one pair of jeans into it, telling Emma it will be her bag to carry. Emma carried that bag around the house and when we were getting ready to leave I told her that we should put her baby doll and tractor in the bag too. When I opened the bag I noticed she had “shopped” at grandma Eda’s house! She had put in a gold hour glass and a little piano clock from the living room. I am sure glad I had opened the bag before we left! Eda really got a kick out of that. She gave her a little wooden decorative box to put in the sack to take home. Cassie was always like that too, needing to take something home. Silly girls! She also thought she should be able to drive when Brianna and Emma were getting ready to go. She threw such a fit when Brianna was trying to get her buckled into the car seat. I went in and got her little steering wheel toy so she could drive too. She is too funny!

Emma blowing on the pinwheel

Mother's Day Pictures

May 12, 2008

Oh how cute is Emmalyne. She just gets more and more cute each day. Last night she spent the night with me. We had a good time playing, watching Eight Below and she went to sleep for me so good. She did wake up at 2am this morning so I just put her in the bed in there and slept the rest of the night with her. Well, she slept, I kept checking to make sure she wasn’t under a pillow, that I wasn’t laying on her little leg and trying not to fall off the bed while she crowded closer and closer to me.

Yesterday Emma and Grandpa Kevin planted some flowers in the little planter that Grandpa built for her. She thought that was pretty fun and loves watering them. I bought a little pinwheel to stick in the planter for decoration but Emma wasn’t about to leave it in there. She enjoyed blowing on it trying to make it spin. Kevin finally showed her to run up and down the driveway to make it spin… what fun is that??

Jordan and Brianna bought Emma a cookies and cream ice cream cone. She thought it was pretty yummy, what she did get in her mouth anyway. She offered a lick to Great Grandma DeMaris but Grandma DeMaris didn’t want to give her, her cold, or that was her excuse. I think it was more because that ice cream cone was a big mess (and who knows if it was shared with Tara before we got there). I bought Emma a little basketball hoop so she can play basketball since she liked it so much when Uncle Jarrod and Adam played it one night.

I helped Emma make the planters for Mother’s day. She loved the “dot, dot, dot” putting the finger prints on for the bees and lady bugs. She had so much fun, I picked up some finger paints and a big pad of paper for her. She enjoyed finger painting before going home today. She did very well, most of the paint was on the paper, just a little on the table, the cell phone, clothes, chair, her little riding car and other victims of painted little fingers and hands. I still say she did really well, Tara escaped without having a colorful experience.

Emma is growing so big so fast. I look at her and it is easy to forget that she isn’t even two yet. She is as smart as can be, with a mind of her own. She definitely beats to the tune of her own drum. She is smart, silly, sweet, so loveable, a little naughty, a bit messy, perfect in every sense!

We had a exciting and busy day yesterday. We went to Rapid City and met up with Grandma Mert, Skylee and Emilee at Chuck E. Cheese then went shopping at the mall. I got such a kick out of her when on the way over her momma gave her a sippy cup of milk and a little bowl of cheerios and she used her lap leapfrog book as her table. She took her book off the lap part then set her glass and bowl up there and just giggled.

Chuck E. Cheese was a hit for all three of the girls. Emma loved the rides and the games. We had her sketched three times alone, once with Brianna and once with me. We would tell her to say cheese or smile and she started this funny face by showing her teeth, almost like a growl. It is so funny. I am not sure what she liked the best… the carousel or the water gun game. She ended up with 32 tickets and had a choice of a bracelet, a ring, a orange, rubber lizzard and couple other things to get with her tickets. My dainty little girl who loves jewelry and princess things chose the orange lizzard of all things. She is so funny.

Shopping netted her a few sundresses, shorts and shirt sets and some pajamas. She also rated big on a horse flashlight and a bubble gun. We let the girls play in the play area for a little bit which was fun for all. I think Grandma Mert was thrilled when Emma came to get me to help her on the slide and instead she turned to Grandma Mert and took her hand to have her help instead. I think the three girls wore Grandma Mert out though.

She is such a good girl. She did get tired if it all when we were in Walmart though. She wanted to be done, can’t blame her since it was such a long day that was about to get longer.

Just as we passed the first exit into Sundance on the way home (I take the second exit) a deer came from the left and I didn’t see it until it was in my headlights. I slammed on the breaks and thought I was going to miss it but I got it’s hind quarters taking out my right side headlight and banging up the fender and hood. It could have been worse but I wonder if this will total my car out with it being 11 years old. I had to laugh though when I heard Emma exclaim “Whoaaaaaaa!!!” from the back seat. She kind of acted scared a little at first but I didn’t pull over like I should have. I was afraid if there was engine trouble and I pulled over then we would be stranded on the road (even for just a few minutes since we were already to Sundance) with Emma at 10:00 at night. We called the highway patrol and he just came to my house. The sheriffs dispatcher kind of made me nervous when she said I could be ticketed for leaving the scene of a accident. I didn’t think of it as being a crash though. The highway patrol man was very nice and laughed when I asked if I was going to get ticketed. He said he wouldn’t do that to me.

So after a day of fun and games and lots of shopping, Emma was in her first (and hopefully her last) accident and my perfect driving record isn’t so perfect!
